Doors open at aspirational scheme with sound-proofed studies in Ben Whishaw’s Bedfordshire birthplace

November 16, 2020

The doors have opened at Hayfield Gate in the Bedfordshire village of Clifton, the childhood home of A-lister Ben Whishaw. The aspirational development – which features sound-proofed studies – has seen over 40 per cent of the 62 family homes available for private sale already sold off-plan.

An opulent five-bedroom show home by Lifestyle Interiors has been styled to illustrate how bespoke joinery and oversized furniture can create a refined statement and raise the bar for new home design.

Kelly Sharman, Sales and Marketing Director for Hayfield said: “Hayfield Gate is our second development in central Bedfordshire in quick succession – an area which has seen demand for new homes rise to unprecedented levels this year. Six months ago, while we were all working from home at the height of the Covid-19 lockdown, we took the decision to upgrade the specification and sound-deaden the walls of the study or smallest bedroom in each property. This new initiative will make it easier for our customers to work uninterrupted while other family members are also at home. Other features of our standard specification include bespoke kitchens, ROCA Laufen bathrooms, Heritage bronze ironmongery, Farrow & Ball paint, feature lighting in key rooms, Hammonds wardrobes and underfloor heating.”

Hayfield Gate is located off New Road and Hitchin Lane, within easy reach of the amenities in Clifton and the neighbouring market town of Shefford. The first residents are preparing to move in and prices for the current release of four and five-bedroom homes range from £650,000 to £725,000. Two and three-bedroom homes will be included in future releases.

Gemma Schofield, Managing Director at Lifestyle Interiors said: “We had a shared vision with Hayfield to disrupt the market and unveil an extraordinary show home, giving house hunters something that hasn’t been seen outside of the most exclusive hotels and top-end London living. Oversized modern-classic furniture pieces are complemented with calming white, grey and blush tones, directional lighting, elegant panelling and bespoke joinery. The blank canvas Hayfield creates is truly exceptional and we want to inspire people to create their own designer interior.

“Working in consultation with the Headmaster, we have themed the boy’s bedroom on the nearby Samuel Whitbread Academy, which is where Ben Whishaw went to school.”

Hayfield’s popular Part-Exchange scheme is available at Hayfield Gate, which gives purchasers ultimate peace of mind and takes the financial risk away from selling their current home. It also enables customers to enjoy living in their current home until their new Hayfield house is ready, at which point there is the luxury of a week-long window to move.

The high-specification homes at the spacious 11.8-acre scheme are being constructed in either red or buff brick. Hayfield Gate incorporates the creation of a main spine road running through the development, connecting with New Road at the western edge, Hitchin Lane at the eastern edge and providing easy access to the A507. A biodiversity corridor is also being created through the middle of the scheme.

Clifton has been awarded the accolade of Bedfordshire Village of the Year three times over. It is highly popular due to its excellent transport links to London and the wider South East, as well as across the Oxford to Cambridge arc. The village also benefits from idyllic countryside, Ofsted Outstanding-rated schooling and a range of local amenities. Hayfield is contributing in excess of £872,000 towards local infrastructure and service improvements, including over £750,000 towards education and schooling.
