Liam Scales, the Assistant Site Manager for Hayfield Oaks in Woburn Sands, has been awarded a Level 6 NVQ ProQual Diploma in Construction Site Management, Building and Civil Engineering.
While continuing to deliver his day duties, Liam took 10 months to work through the 19 modules of the ProQual Diploma via an online study programme. Hayfield sponsored Mr Scales through the process, and colleagues across various departments provided advice on programme management, waste disposal, technical matters, and health and safety regulations.
Being awarded the Level 6 NVQ will enable 24-year-old Liam to study to become MCIOB qualified.
Liam Scales, Assistant Site Manager for Hayfield Oaks said: “My dad is a Project Manager for a large housebuilder, so I guess it’s been my destiny to have a career in construction. I chose not to tell him I was studying for my Level 6 NVQ Diploma at first because I was proud to be working through each module at such a fast pace. Some people take two years to do what I’ve achieved in only 10 months.
“Life is busy at home, as we have a two-year-old toddler, but my girlfriend has been incredibly supportive and given me lots of time, space and encouragement along the way. I am also really grateful to my colleagues at Hayfield for assisting me with various aspects of the study work, and for the brilliant response since finding out I had passed. I love working at Hayfield and am really pleased to be progressing my career here.”
Since joining the company over two years ago, Liam Scales has been based at Hayfield Gate in the Bedfordshire village of Clifton, where the final phase of 95 premium family houses is being delivered. He recently moved to Hayfield Oaks in Woburn Sands, Buckinghamshire, which is a development of 65 luxury homes. The final phase of Hayfield Oaks incorporates a zero-carbon-ready specification, with all homes installed with air source heat pumps, EV car charging points and enhanced levels of insulation.
Ken Mulpeter MCIOB, Production Director for Hayfield said: “This is a great accomplishment and is well deserved recognition of Liam’s skills and expertise. He is a talented Assistant Site Manager and a great ambassador for the housebuilding profession. Juggling a busy day job and homelife alongside professional studies is a real challenge and Liam has set the benchmark to others looking to progress their careers.”
Sara Hope, MCIPD, Head of HR for Hayfield said: “Liam can be very proud of this fantastic achievement. Everyone at Hayfield is delighted for him. The continued development of our people is key to our business success with Hayfield forecast to increase its turnover to £150 million this year. Liam is now focused on achieving his MCIOB and the company are supporting him with this.”
Crowned Housebuilder of the Year at the 2021 WhatHouse? Awards, Solihull-headquartered Hayfield is proactively installing air source heat pumps, underfloor heating, electric vehicle fast-charging points, and fibre optic broadband into all new and upcoming developments, in line with its strong ESG foundations. These features – alongside its current build specification – ensures all new Hayfield homes are zero carbon ready.
Hayfield has eight live sites in Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Cambridgeshire, Wiltshire and Worcestershire, where executive family homes are being constructed in prime semi-rural and edge of town settings. Hayfield is seeking to deliver a turnover of £150m during 2022, supported by a five-year landbank.
