For the second year running, Hayfield has been shortlisted for two categories in the national Housebuilder Awards 2020.
The Solihull-headquartered company has been announced as a finalist in the Best Customer Satisfaction Initiative, which it won in 2019, beating every other housebuilder in the process. Bovis Homes, Legal & General Homes and Redrow Homes are amongst the other finalists for this coveted award this year. The four-year-old company has also made the shortlist for Best Refurbishment Project for its Hayfield Green scheme in the Oxfordshire village of Stanton Harcourt. The development is breathing new life into a 21-acre former RAF site, which was an active airfield and training base during WWII.
At the 2019 Housebuilder Awards, Hayfield was also crowned Best Small Housebuilder, which is a category decided upon entirely by merit by the judging panel with no nomination or entry process. The winners of the 2020 Awards will be revealed at a virtual presentation on Thursday 3rd December, which will bring the industry together online and showcase the best of the best in what has been a completely unprecedented year.
Mark Booth, Managing Director for Hayfield said: “We are delighted to be a finalist in two Housebuilder Award categories for the second year running. It has really boosted the team and is the ultimate seal of approval of a job well done. We pride ourselves on putting our customers first throughout the entire sales process and for the first two years after completion, so it is rewarding to be in the shortlist for Best Customer Satisfaction Initiative.
“At the shortlisted Hayfield Green scheme, which is one of our most popular developments, we actively chose to retain and refurbish 10 buildings and structures that date back to WWII, preserving the site’s unique history. The recognition in the Housebuilder Awards shortlist acknowledges that we have risen to the challenge at a large and complex regeneration scheme, the majority of which had lain derelict for many decades. We now cannot wait for the awards presentation in December.”
Prior to construction commencing last year on Hayfield Green’s 57 luxury family houses and nine bungalows, RAF Stanton Harcourt was a brownfield and largely abandoned WWII Airfield in West Oxfordshire. The site is notable for having been a departure point for Winston Churchill for the pivotal Casablanca Conference. It was also a starting point for a bomber raid on the German battleship Scharnhorst. In addition to imaginatively restoring 10 airfield buildings and structures, Hayfield is creating outstanding landscaped open space, a heritage trail, recreation features and a community-use building.
The former ‘Crew Locker Building’ is being refurbished and converted into three bungalows, whilst the ‘Bomber Training’ and ‘Ground Instructional’ buildings will comprise two homes and an associated carport. The former ‘Guard Room’ alongside the retained ‘Water Tower’ will become a multi-functioning ‘Community-Use Building’ and be transferred to the Parish Council when the development concludes, together with associated amenity space.
An ‘Air Raid Shelter’ and three ‘Blast Shelters’ will also be retained as open space informal play features, with the former ‘Airfield Taxiway’ being immortalised as a focal landscape feature within an all-encompassing ‘heritage trail’ across the site. Information boards will be placed aside all retained buildings/structures, detailing their individual former use.
Hayfield specialises in building luxury family houses and has eight live sites located in prime locations in Warwickshire, Oxfordshire, Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Buckinghamshire and Wiltshire where a total of 554 homes are currently under construction.
In 2019, Hayfield made history by becoming the first ever to be crowned Best Small Housebuilder in both the WhatHouse? and Housebuilder Awards. Hayfield also won Best House Under £750k at the 2019 Evening Standard New Homes Awards and Residential Developer of the Year at the 2019 Insider West Midlands Property Awards. The company has also scooped three NHBC Pride in the Job Awards.
