Hayfield Pledges Support to Hanslope Jubilee Celebrations

April 28, 2022

Hayfield has pledged support to the Hanslope Jubilee Committee, coming on board as one of the principal sponsors of the Buckinghamshire village’s four-day Jubilee celebration. Running from 2nd – 5th June, the events will commemorate Her Majesty, The Queen’s 70th year as Monarch and Head of the Commonwealth on her Platinum Jubilee.

The official Jubilee proceedings will commence at 2pm on Thursday 2nd June with town criers and Pearly Kings and Queens announcing a specially written Proclamation, heralding the lighting of the beacons later that evening. At 9:35pm, Buckinghamshire bagpiper Julia Reed will play Diu Regnare – a unique tune specially written for the occasion – at Hanslope Recreation Ground. This will be followed by a bugle call, entitled Majesty, and then the lighting of Hanslope’s beacon, taking place at 9:45pm. The exact timing of the Jubilee events will be honoured by all 1,500 official Jubilee locations across the UK and the Commonwealth.

Andy Morris, Managing Director of Hayfield said: “We are delighted to pledge our support to Hanslope’s Jubilee celebrations, especially as many of the residents who have recently moved into Hayfield Walk in the village will be attending. What a privilege it will be for the country and the wider Commonwealth to come together and celebrate the achievements of Her Majesty The Queen, Britain’s longest serving monarch. Paying tribute to her 70 years of selfless service will be a joy and an honour for us all.  Events such as this bring communities together en masse and create such positive and long-lasting memories.”

Hanslope’s Jubilee events also include a dog show and sports day on Saturday 4th June, and a street party on Sunday 5th June, when 80 long tables will line Hanslope High Street, which will be closed off to vehicle access for the day. The table bookings sold out to local people within 20 minutes of going on sale in mid-April.

Cllr Alison Andrew, a member of Hanslope Parish Council and the Jubilee Committee said: “We are very grateful to Hayfield and all those who have supported us for many months to ensure Hanslope’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations will be a truly momentous occasion. The Parish Council and Jubilee Committee are very proud that Hanslope has been recognised as an official Jubilee Beacon location. We have no doubt that the formal proceedings will be intertwined with the spontaneity and joy of family, friends and neighbours celebrating together across the four-day weekend.”

The Most Revd Justin Welby, Archbishop of Canterbury said: “I warmly encourage Christians and church choirs throughout the country to join in singing the Song for the Commonwealth at 9.45pm on 2nd June, as The Queen’s Jubilee Beacons are lit throughout the United Kingdom, Channel Islands, Isle of Man, and in each of the capital cities of the Commonwealth. This will be a moment of remarkable celebration as we join together across different generations, denominations, faiths and communities all over the world in proper tribute to Her Majesty The Queen.”

Alan Hay, Chairman of The Royal Celtic Society, whose Patron is Her Royal Highness, The Princess Royal said: “We recognise the enormous commitment Her Majesty, The Queen, has made in serving the Commonwealth and its people. We are delighted therefore to encourage all our members to participate in the Jubilee celebrations and our pipers to play Diu Regnare, composed by our member Stuart Liddell in honour of this historic event.”
