The pandemic enables a young family to move to Hayfield Green in the Oxfordshire countryside

March 26, 2021

A young family has moved from Littlemore on the outskirts of Oxford to Hayfield Green in the historic West Oxfordshire village of Stanton Harcourt. The move to the countryside was made possible because of how the pandemic has liberated so many people to work from home, rather than endure a daily commute into a city centre.

James Shields, Sally Culmer and baby Archie used Hayfield’s Part-Exchange initiative to upgrade from a two-bedroom Victorian terraced property to a luxury three-bedroom detached Warmington home at Hayfield Green; the 21-acre former RAF Stanton Harcourt airfield. With such expansive living space, they have created an additional room downstairs to enable Sally to have a self-contained home study.

James Shields said: “I fell in love with all the unique attributes of Hayfield Green the first time I visited, but my partner Sally needed a little more persuading because it is 12 miles away from her office in the centre of Oxford. The pandemic has brought restrictions on everyone, but there are some positives to come out of it too. We feel like we have more quality family time together, and working from home has suddenly become the norm for so many people.

“When we first viewed the plans for the Warmington, we could see it was the equivalent size of a four-bedroom home, enabling us to calve out the space to suit our needs. We hadn’t initially thought we would be buying new, however our Victorian home was always cold and draughty and when visiting a friend’s new home, we realised how warm it was. We are both quite eco-aware, so living in an efficient new home with an Air Source Heat Pump really appealed to us, as it will help to lower our carbon footprint. Moving to Hayfield Green is enabling us to fulfil our dream of bringing up our baby boy in a beautiful home within a close-knit traditional village, surrounded by idyllic countryside.”

Located in the historic village of Stanton Harcourt, Hayfield Green is now 95 per cent sold. The mix of 66 traditional brick, stone and render homes are set amongst 21-acres of landscaped open space. Prices range from £495,000 to £525,000 for the three remaining exceptionally spacious homes.

The site was an active airfield during WWII and is notable for having been a departure point for Winston Churchill for the pivotal Casablanca Conference. It was also a starting point for a bomber raid on the German battleship Scharnhorst. The restoration of the air raid and blast shelters, Guard House, Water Tower and Bomber Training Building are all now complete, immortalising the history for generations to come.

With RAF Brize Norton close by, the Government’s Forces Help to Buy initiative is available to help Armed Forces Personnel raise deposit funds, while Part-Exchange is offered to all eligible buyers.

Hayfield Green features a luxurious specification, including bespoke Manor kitchens, ROCA Laufen bathrooms, Minoli ceramic tiles, underfloor heating, heritage bronze ironmongery, Hammonds wardrobes and Farrow & Ball paint. All the homes are heated by eco-friendly Air Source Heat Pumps.
